One could not help thinking that J. G. Cefai's letter belonged to the time of the dark ages and the Spanish Inquisition or was written by a Taliban Muslim extremist.
First of all marriage is a man made sacrament made by men for men without little or no input by women.
In God's 10 Commandments no reference is made to marriage except thou shalt not commit adultery. Man and woman commit adultery every day and, according to Mr Cefai, their spouses are expected to stay married and not get divorced facing humiliation and the risk of AIDS and other venereal diseases.
Furthermore is he aware that the Catholic Church has been granting divorce in the form of annulment provided one is willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money? And does he realise that in such cases a child from that marriage becomes illegitimate?
I am a happily married man of 37 years. I have relatives and friends who have divorced and remarried and live happily with their new spouse and children.
I find his comments insulting and disturbing. I also wonder what makes him such an expert on the subject of God and divorce.
