Malta International Airport has completed the certification process in order for Servisair GlobeGround to commence its operations as the second ground handling service provider.

Until now Air Malta has had a monopoly over ground handling services at the airport.

Certification is issued within the parameters established by the International Civil Aviation Organisation as well as the aerodrome manual and the technical specifications for ground handling services published by MIA plc.

MIA's aviation services department conducted an intensive training programme during which the new employees were given instruction on airside safety and driving code, ramp safety and aerodrome operational safety.

MIA's policy is to provide regular training to ground handling service providers and airside users. It has planned a series of specialised training programmes for this year and the next.
