Next in the series of cultural presentations organised by Din l-Art Helwa is a lecture in English by Cynthia de Giorgio entitled Symbols And Their Meanings During The Period Of The Knights Of St John.
The lecture will be held at the Judge Caruana Curran Hall, 133, Melita Street, Valletta on Thursday at 6 pm. Attendance is free.
A graduate of the University of Malta holding an honours bachelor of arts degree in history of art, Ms De Giorgio will be illustrating the use of symbols made by the Knights of St John in various art forms.
The frequent, bold and decorative use of symbols was one way the knights ensured they communicated the message that they were soldiers of Christ.
The ability to understand these symbols has diminished with the passage of time and many of these expressions today may go unnoticed or even misinterpreted.
