I refer to the item Grotesque by Candidus II (February 7).
To begin with, the works along Pinto Wharf are being carried out by the Works Division (on the façade of the bastions) and Viset and not by the Malta Transport Authority (ADT) which was only involved in the implementation of a traffic management scheme for the area.
The decision to close Pinto Wharf to vehicular traffic was taken last November in the interest of public safety after the ADT had been informed that the state of the bastions and the supporting structures along the wharf was a dangerous one. The Works Division and Viset had called on the ADT to implement a traffic management scheme for the area so that the necessary repair works could be carried out on the bastions.
Candidus II mentioned that Pinto Wharf was kept closed to traffic during the carnival celebrations. This is not entirely correct. Pinto Wharf, in the direction from Valletta to Marsa, was reopened to light vehicular traffic in the afternoon of February 4.
