We greatly appreciate the fact that Mr Saviour Cachia (The Sunday Times, February 27) is convinced that his street falls under the responsibility of the central government. We appreciate also that he is not expecting miracles from the local council.

However he expects us to inform him about his street - Triq il-Lampuka. I am sure he knows well enough that this street was one of those into which a lot of scarifying was put in to ease the difficulties and in doing so a lot of progress was made. The majority of Mr Cachia's neighbours confirmed this. He is most welcome to enquire at our offices.

However since it is inconvenient for him to come to our offices may I inform him that his street is not next on the list, according to recent information received from the central government.

Regarding the contractor who closed the street with truckloads of stones, we have been informed that the job is now finished. Naturally, thanks to the council different steps were taken involving various authorities, and the contractor at least collaborated. The local council knew about the delay to build the boundary wall and after consultation with the contractor we managed to obtain a positive result. Admittedly it took us some time to resolve this problem due to lack of information about the contractor in question.

Apparently Mr Cachia is already informed about the works, which the council intends to carry out; in fact he refers to works which are in the pipeline, such as Triq in-Nadur, which has already been allocated to a specific contractor.

The recent bad weather has hampered the start of works. We expected in vain that the adjacent street, Triq l-Ghassies would be done by the government because all the rubble would be carried into Triq in-Nadur, but we could not wait any longer.

We would like to ask Mr Cachia to tell us how many times we should change a mirror broken by vandals. It is senseless to change the same traffic mirror every week. His solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Again, we invite Mr.Cachia to ask us about some traffic mirrors, zebra crossing and traffic signs. He can be sure that we have an answer to his questions, but as he said, these are petty things and one should not jump to the conclusion that the local council is leaving residents in the dark.

Finally we thank Mr Cachia for confirming that for the local council the major issue is the recycling plant. For his information, the mayor and councillors are present at the offices for not less than five hours a day.

Finally what we lack is not the participation of the councillors but that of some residents who fail to give the council their feedback, preferring to grumble with others instead.
