The annual day in honour of the bishop was celebrated in the Gozo diocese on March 2, when Bishop Nikol Cauchi celebrated his 76th birthday and his 38th anniversary as bishop.
Bishop's Day ended with a concelebrated Mass led by Bishop Cauchi, assisted by many priests, including the Vicar General, Mgr Giovanni Bosco Gauci, and Sannat parish priest and Pro Sanctitate Movement director Canon Tarcisio Camilleri, at the Good Shepherd church, Victoria. The Mass was attended by members of Catholic organisations.
After thanking all those who prayed for him, and the clergy and lay people for their co-operation, Bishop Cauchi quoted excerpts from Pope John II's book Alzatevi Andiamo. In it he describes his life since he was consecrated bishop.
The book also describes the Bishop's duties in his episcopal mission: to spread God's word through every possible means; to guide and lead to look after the souls entrusted to his care; and to reprimand, warn and correct.
Bishop Cauchi ended his speech by quoting the Pope's words on the bishop's powers, to be of service and bear in mind Christ's words: "I have not come to be served but to be of service."
Mass was followed by a social gathering at the Good Shepherd parish centre.
