I refer to the letter Parking At One's Own Risk (February 28).
The law is very clear regarding the roles and duties of car park attendants, which include that:
A car park attendant shall, while on duty, be appropriately dressed in such manner as may be indicated in any conditions attached to his licence and shall wear a black peak cap bearing an official badge issued by the Malta Transport Authority (ADT).
A car park attendant shall be authorised to operate only in the car park or parks indicated in his licence. He shall attend at such car park or parks during the times indicated in his licence.
A car park attendant shall be permitted to keep any gratuities he may receive from motorists using the car park.
A car park attendant shall use all care and diligence to ensure the orderly entry, parking and exit of vehicles in any car park under his charge and to prevent all thefts from, or damage to, such vehicles. He shall note down in writing the registration number of any vehicle involved in a collision or other incident at such car park and report the particulars to the police.
The ADT, also, periodically holds training seminars for all car park attendants. The ADT has also established a uniform for car park attendants and even an identification tag which is to be worn at all times.
