A new range of Italian frozen foods for Coeliacs is to be launched by Good Living in Malta today.
The news will be welcomed by the coeliac community as this type of food has to date not been readily available to consumers in Malta.
Making up about one per cent of the population, coeliacs cannot eat foods that contain gluten, a protein found in wheat and other cereals. Many processed foods contain gluten, therefore coeliacs are restricted by necessity to eating foods that are certified as gluten-free. For example, coeliac children can only watch as siblings and friends dig into meals others take for granted, such as fish fingers and chicken nuggets.
In response to this need Good Living will introduce the Joss Kikka's line of quality Italian frozen-food products to Malta this week. All products are certified by the Italian health authorities as being gluten-free and include pasta, breaded fish and meats, pizza, bread and cakes.
The venue for the launch is a Weekend of Coeliac Awareness activities being hosted by the Coeliac Association Malta at The Westin Dragonara Resort today and tomorrow.
The Kikka's line is also suitable for vegetarians, athletes and in general those who need to be on a special diet. Some products are free of milk, lactose and casein, making them suitable for those who suffer from a great variety of other conditions ranging from autism to diabetes.
Joss is an Italian dietetic company founded in 1999. The company produces frozen products for those affected by coeliac disease, dermatitis herpertiformis, autism and food intolerances. It is well established in the Italian market place and is expanding, appointing distributors in other European countries.
