The port, transport and aviation section of the Union Haddiema Maghqudin has ordered industrial action at the Malta Transport Authority - ADT over what it said is the authority's failure to work towards the conclusion of the collective agreement.

The union said that issues over which there was still no agreement include a reform exercise and a proposal by the ADT to reduce workers' wages by 13 per cent.

The union has informed the authority it was prepared to step up industrial action without further notice in the absence of developments that could lead towards the conclusion of the collective agreement.

The union has directed transport assistants and enforcement officers not to move from the locality where they are assigned duties, not to use telephones, radios, mobiles or faxes, not to accept reports from inspectors or members of the Public Transport Association and to refrain from performing messenger duties and to work to rule.

The section will be holding a meeting for workers in the licensing division of the ADT on Monday to discuss problems workers were facing.
