I refer to Manwel Galea's Road Licence Renewal (February 21).

We are in total agreement with Mr Galea about the queues at the Licensing and Testing Directorate (LTD) and regret any inconvenience caused to clients. However, the long queues he mentioned are in fact restricted to the last five working days of every month. In normal circumstances the queue to renew road licences is confined to manageable proportions. At the time of publication of the letter (February 21) there was no backlog at the LTD. The backlog only accumulates in the last week of every month.

It is pertinent to note that the months of January and February are the busiest months with, by far, the highest number of vehicle licences to renew.

The public is once again advised to apply as early in the month as possible in order to avoid any queues.
