I acknowledge and admire the efforts by the police, even in inclement weather, to try and run the traffic smoother, during peak hours, especially at the point where traffic emerging from Marsa industrial estate meets the mainstream traffic coming from Paola. But, with due respect, there does not seem to be any improvement!

The same is happening at the Kappara roundabout. Many have written, including myself, stating how far better the traffic was flowing now that the traffic lights have been switched off. So why have police officers replaced the traffic lights?

My opinion is that the police would be better employed disciplining roads hogs! They should make sure, among other things, that indicators are used, stop signs obeyed, speed limits observed, no loitering on the outside/fast lanes, no overtaking from the left, no take-offs from stationary positions without due care to the other traffic and the piece de resistance, driving right into your path when the oncoming driver needs to go right, irrespective of the distance available!

The police should also eradicate, once and for all, the syndrome of driving on regardless as "the other one will stop"! One cannot miss the insipid and "innocent" look on the idiots who flaunt every rule in the Highway Code!

Funnily enough, if drivers are disciplined and the rules followed, traffic will flow much easier and much quicker.

And this is what the police should be seeing to!
