Parents will be able to get a rest from their children at a reduced rate on March 5, Children's Cinema Day, when a ticket to a film will cost just 95c for children aged 12 and under.

Accompanying adults will pay Lm1.50 instead of the usual Lm2.75. Tickets are on sale from today.

The films will start rolling in cinemas in Malta at 9 a.m. with the last screening at 7 p.m. The two-screen cinema in Gozo will be holding afternoon and early evening performances.

KRS Film Distributors, in collaboration with the cinemas, is offering a choice of 16 films including animated features, action thrillers, comedies, a fairytale and an animal adventure.

The children will be spoilt for choice, with films ranging from the animated family film The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie to the animated sci-fi comedy The Incredibles.

Another animated film, the comedy Racing Stripes, is about an abandoned zebra that grows up believing it is a racehorse and, with the help of his barnyard friends and a teenage girl, sets out to achieve his dream of racing with thoroughbreds.

Fans of Jim Carrey should not miss the comic adventure of Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events.

Finding Neverland, starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, is a film about J.M. Barrie's friendship with a family who inspired him to create Peter Pan. Other films showing on the day include: Yu-Gi-Oh!; the adventure story National Treasure; the fantasy romance Ella Enchanted; the romantic comedy A Cinderella Story; the animated film Shark Tale; the romantic comedy The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement; and the adventure drama of two tiger cubs Two Brothers; Elektra; The Prince & Me; Hellboy and 13 Going On 30.

Apart from the various promotions being organised by the cinemas, the children will be offered a mini-poster to take back home as a reminder of their day out.

Children's Cinema Day is being held at the Eden Century Cinemas, in St George's Bay; Embassy Cinemas, in Valletta; Empire Cinema, Bugibba; Eden Century Cinemas Galleria, Fgura; The New Sun City Cine Palais in Marsascala and Citadel Cinemas in Gozo. Early booking is recommended.
