Russian Olympic champion Yelena Isinbayeva set a world women's indoor pole vault record for the third time within two weeks on Saturday night.

Isinbayeva, who set the outdoor world record at 4.92 metres in Brussels last September, vaulted 4.89 metres on her first attempt at the Lievin indoor meeting in France.

She beat her previous mark of 4.88 metres set nine days ago in Birmingham.

Isinbayeva, who has been tipped by the great Sergei Bubka to become the first woman to clear the five metres barrier, then attempted 5.05 but failed.

In the showpiece event of the evening, the men's 60 metres final, American Leonard Scott edged out compatriot Maurice Greene, the former Olympic and world 100 champion.

In the 60 metres hurdles, home favourite Ladji Doucoure beat four times world champion Allen Johnson in 7.43 seconds.

France's Christine Arron won the 200 metres women's final in 22.69 seconds.

Godina throws year's best shot put

Meanwhile, former world outdoor champion John Godina unleashed the longest shot put of the season, 21.83 metres, on his first attempt at the US indoor championships at Boston, Massachusetts.

Fellow Olympian Reese Hoffa finished second with a throw of 21.74 metres, the second best in the world this year.

The 32-year-old Godina broke East German Ulf Timmerman's 1987 meet record of 21.63 metres with the opening toss and had four other throws over 21 metres.
