The Malta Communications Authority last week published a consultation paper proposing new mechanisms to facilitate the effective resolution of disputes between electronic communications service providers.

MCA chairman Joseph V. Tabone said: "As markets continue to develop, issues are bound to arise which could cause difficulty, particularly for new entrants to the market. It is therefore crucial that such issues are dealt with efficiently and effectively as appropriate.

"Disputes between electronic communications service providers can hinder the development of competition or delay the provision of innovative services and reductions in prices. The effective and timely resolution of disputes is therefore a key priority of the MCA."

The proposed procedures for the lodging and handling of disputes, including the level of information needed to enable the MCA to consider the issues and guiding timeframes are detailed in this consultation paper.

Those who are interested can submit their views up to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 11.

The document, Dispute Resolution Procedures in Relation to Disputes between Undertakings, can be downloaded from the MCA's Website, www.mca.org.mt or obtained for free from the MCA's offices.
