The 2005 Annual Conference of the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy is being organised in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Malta.

The conference will be held between March 9 and 12 at the Le Meridien Phoenicia. The theme is Partnerships in Education: Science and Practice.

Three areas of partnerships in pharmacy education have been identified for the plenary sessions: partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry, partnerships between Europe and the US in pharmacy education and partnerships in the hospital and community pharmacy settings and with other health professionals.

Prof. Pavel Zgaga, from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and member of the board of the Bologna Follow-Up Group, will be addressing the conference on the challenges for higher education brought by the Bologna Process.

Apart from presentations by distinguished speakers from the fields of education and industry in Europe and the US, sessions on pharmacoeconomics in the pharmacy curriculum, quality assessment of pharmaceutical education and development of skills in detecting, managing and preventing pharmaceutical errors will also be held.

Thirty-nine papers submitted from 24 institutions will be presented while the 53 final-year pharmacy students at the University of Malta will be presenting a poster on their project. Over 100 delegates from 26 countries and pharmacy students are taking part. Actavis, a leading player in the development, manufacture and sale of high-quality generic pharmaceuticals, is the main conference sponsor.

Those interested in participating or sponsoring this conference can contact Lilian M. Azzopardi, e-mail: lilmaz@maltanet.net or on tel. 2134 4971.
