The MLP's outcry, alleging violation of voters' rights in Zejtun and Marsa due to the last minute withdrawal of some Nationalist candidates in the same localities comes as a surprise, as much as the PN's decision to withdraw the nominations at the last minute. Instead, I believe it would suit the MLP better to celebrate a merited walk-over, as it cannot really throw stones while living in a glass house.

I am confident that the Labour leadership and your readers remember very vividly our recent EU referendum and the MLP's directive to voters to abdicate their right to vote by abstaining and/or spoiling the ballot paper.

Moreover, the MLP leadership also proclaimed an absurd victory at the same EU referendum results, conveniently ignoring the majority of the electorate who actually voted Yes to EU membership. And some years back some infamous Zejtun 'pickets' reportedly physically assaulted and prevented some PN supporters from voting in the 1987 general election.

Nevertheless, I sincerely appeal to all political parties not to play games and truly respect our voting rights and duties.
