The magic of children's illustrations

Tony Ross

Tony Ross

Illustrations by one of the best known creators of original and traditional picture books, Tony Ross, are on display at St. James Cavalier as part of the British Council Magic Pencil exhibition - a touring exhibition of children's illustrations.

The illustrations are selected by Quentin Blake, the distinguished children's author, illustrator and first UK Children's Laureate.

Magic Pencil shows how today's illustrators reflect contemporary concerns with equal force and originality and how their work incontestably establishes this as a second golden age of British illustration.

The exhibition features 60 facsimile prints of original artworks by 13 of Britain's most accomplished and celebrated illustrators today.

In addition, the exhibition also incorporates a film programme showing the animated work of several artists including Raymond Briggs' The Bear and Father Christmas; Michael Foreman's War Games; Tony Ross's Towser and Posy Simmond's Fred.

The Magic Pencil exhibition can be viewed until March 10.

For further information contact St James Cavalier on 2122 3200 or 2122 3216.
