The commander of the Armed Forces of Malta, Brigadier Carmel Vassallo, is in the United Kingdom for a two-day visit as part of a programme organised by the British High Commission and the UK Ministry of Defence.

Brigadier Vassallo will tour the Britannia Royal Naval College in Plymouth and meet AFM Officer 2nd Lt Audrey Aquilina who is studying at Dartmouth sponsored by the Ministry of Defence.

Many Maltese officers have undertaken part of their military education at British establishments over the years, such as officer training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. Many of them have graduated with distinction.

The AFM commander will have meetings with the UK Chief of the General Staff, the Chief of the Naval Staff at the Ministry of Defence and with officials of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

He is accompanied by his aide-de-camp, Captain Christopher Xuereb, and the British High Commission's defence advisor Capt John Hollidge.
