Mepa caseload stands at 3,951

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority determined 249 applications in December and received 382 new applications while in January it determined 521 applications and received 664 new submissions.

The net pending caseload at the end of the January was 3,951, Mepa said.

In December it issued 33 stop and enforcement notices, 29 in Malta and four in Gozo.

Nineteen enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit. Another seven cases were resolved after the owners decided to remove an illegal development following an enforcement action while four cases were withdrawn by Mepa.

Last month, 55 stop and enforcement notices were issued, 41 in Malta and 14 in Gozo.

In the first month of the year, 43 enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit. Another 27 cases were resolved because the owners decided to remove an illegal development following enforcement action and 10 cases were withdrawn by Mepa.

Mepa carried out one direct action operation each in December and January.
