Two villages in Gozo have new parish priests, the Gozo Curia announced yesterday.

Former Qala parish priest Fr Carmel Refalo has taken the reigns at his hometown, Xaghra, while Fr Joe Zammit has been appointed as Fr Refalo's replacement.

The appointments were made by Gozo Bishop Nikol Cauchi.

Fr Refalo studied in Rome and served as a priest in the Italian capital before taking up his appointment in Qala in 1991. He is also a lecturer at the Seminary.

Fr Zammit also studied in Rome and obtained a PhD in canon law and civil law. He served in the Italian capital as a priest before returning to become the deputy parish priest at Qala. He is also a judge at the Ecclesiastical Tribunal in Malta and Gozo.
