Tony Demicoli, 34, of Mosta, a bouncer at the Steam Club in Paceville, was injured when he was attacked by a group of men while on duty at the club at about 3.30 a.m. yesterday.

The police said that although his condition was serious, he was not in danger of dying.

Sources said that an argument broke out after Mr Demicoli asked the men to leave the premises since they were allegedly misbehaving while drinking.

Some damage was also done to the premises, the sources said.

Mr Demicoli was injured as he fell down several steps and the police are investigating how this happened.

He suffered serious head injuries.

The men involved in the incident, about six, fled the scene.

An acquaintance said Mr Demicoli was an amicable and quiet character and is a karate black belt.
