What does the new Constitution for Europe say about the European Ombudsman?
The new Constitution for Europe retains the office of the European Ombudsman. This Ombudsman is elected by the European Parliament and his/her role is to receive, examine and report on complaints about maladministration in the activities of the European Union institutions, bodies, offices or agencies, under the conditions laid down in the same Constitution. The European Ombudsman shall be completely independent in the performance of his/her duties.
