An 18-year-old man was yesterday charged with stealing a painting, antique furniture and other items from a Ta' Xbiex house last year.

Magistrate Anthony Vella heard Ignatius Joseph Fenech, of Sliema, plead not guilty to stealing the items on the night of July 16, 2004.

Fenech was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm15,000.

Police Inspectors Anglu Caruana and Stephen Gatt prosecuted.

Dr Tony Abela appeared for Fenech.
