I refer to Lou Bondí's letter Echo Of A Libel Suit (January 17).

Alternattiva Demokratika has already stated its regret for causing Lou Bondí any personal harm through the publication of a story implicating him in a road block in which drugs were found. AD repeatedly stated that Mr Bondí was not involved in a roadblock in which marijuana was found.

The story was only published because the newspaper Alternattiva had confirmed the story with the police public relations officer. When one considers that AD was misled by a public official into believing that Mr Bondí was involved in this case, the court sentence inflicted on AD was unfair.

In his article Harry Vassallo was contesting the draconian fine imposed by the law courts on a newspaper and not Mr Bondí's innocence in this case.
