The U-16 German sailing team will be in Malta later on this week for a four-day winter training camp. The team, made up of two boys and three girls, will be accompanied by delegate Manfred Panuschia who was here for last December's Euromed Regatta.
Malta's mild winters and ideal sailing conditions make it a perfect location for training purposes, particularly for sailors coming from north European countries where sailing is practically not possible at this time of year.
In fact, this is the third time in four years that German junior sailors will hold winter training camps in Malta. On previous occasions, the team was always accompanied by a German coach but this time training will be conducted by Jean-Paul Fleri Soler, of Malta Young Sailors Club and U-16 Malta coach.
He has prepared a training programme for the German juniors and local top sailors. Fleri Soler will be assisted by other MYSC coaches. Launching will take place from St Paul's Bay between Saturday and Tuesday.
MYSC have invested heavily in facilities and equipment lately to cater for such training camps which, in turn, help local sailors develop their skills.
