MUT clarifies position

The Malta Union of Teachers has insisted that its stand during talks on the social pact matched that taken by the other unions.

The MUT said that during a meeting with the Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday, it had clarified that in a statement it issued the day before it never meant to imply it did not agree with the position taken by the other unions.

The two unions discussed the MUT's affiliation with the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions and agreed that they needed to look for a solution that would lead to a more practical confederation.

The MUT has suspended its membership of the CMTU over comments made by the CMTU and Union Haddiema Maghqudin which it said did not promote trade union unity.
