Eighteen people, mainly schoolchildren, were injured when a truck crashed into a school bus in central Austria yesterday, police said.
The bus carrying roughly 50 people had stopped to let off children near the town of Hofkirchen an der Trattnach in the province of Upper Austria when the truck drove into the back of it.
"There are 13 people slightly injured and five badly injured, including the truck driver," a police spokesman said, adding those hurt were mainly schoolchildren. The Austrian automobile club OeAMTC sent rescue helicopters to the scene.
"This school bus seems to have stopped to let out school children and the truck driver didn't notice," a spokesman for OeAMTC said.
