FM Theatre Productions' next show is Side by Side by Sondheim - a collection of wonderful songs by composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim.

Simple and unpretentious, this Tony Award winning musical is a perfect introduction to the work of this contemporary master and a must for fans of musical theatre.

A dazzling array of some of Sondheim's best-known songs will feature numbers from landmark shows that revolutionised the musical theatre with their masterful craft and astounding creativity, such as Company, Follies, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum and Pacific Overtures, not to mention the classics written with musical theatre giants Leonard Bernstein, Jule Styne and Richard Rodgers.

Minimal sets and costumes, a small cast and two pianos allow the brilliant songs to shine.

Edward Mercieca, as the charming narrator, will take care of proceedings as well as singing some of the songs. The other three singers are well-known actors and vocalists Ruth Sammut Casingena, Pia Zammit and Mikhail Basmadjian.

The musical director is Rosetta Debattista, who will also be playing the piano on the night. For this production, FM Theatre Productions have also secured the services of pianist Ross Williams from the Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Side by Side by Sondheim will be presented at the Manoel Theatre from February 18 to 20.

Booking is open at the Manoel Theatre on 2124 6389 or via e-mail at bookings@teatrumanoel.com.mt
