PBS cites 'unclear policy'on Christian values spots

The TV stations belonging to the main political parties have accepted to air Christian value spots produced by the Church TV unit but PBS says its policy on such broadcasts is unclear.

The spots form part of the Campaign For Christian Values launched by the Media Centre, through its TV unit. The campaign is now in its third year.

This year the campaign consists of a set of 30-second TV spots with the theme Ghinni Nghix - Help Me Live.

The TV unit said it has reached an agreement with various producers for the production of the spots such as Desktop Creations and Picture Box MPS Ltd, which have already produced the first two spots with the collaboration of Vince Briffa as consultant director for the production of all the spots.

APS Bank Ltd has agreed to fund the production of the campaign.

Victor Formosa, executive coordinator of the TV unit, said that so far the spots are being broadcast on Super One TV and NET TV. Since the spots are considered as public service announcements and are usually broadcast free of charge, PBS has advised the TV unit there is no clear policy on the matter and therefore for the time being they will not be broadcast on TVM, he said.

The Media Centre said the TV unit considers the Campaign for Christian Values as an integral part of its mission to propagate human and Christian values through various productions.

The TV unit is responsible for the production of two TV programmes broadcast on TVM every Saturday, QalbinNies and Kelma tal-Mulej.
