Waste recycling

I am preoccupied about the recycling of waste by shop owners.

I have noticed that a number of shop owners, bars and restaurants do not separate their large quantities of waste produced but actually discard it together with the domestic organic waste.

I personally separate waste at home and take all the trouble of going to the bring-in sites available in my locality. But these shop owners do not bother, they just leave the waste behind the door, to be collected by the domestic waste refuse trucks.

Since these business people produce a large quantity of waste, I would like to see them contribute to the environment, not only making lots of profit at the cost of us, residents and other citizens.

These bars, restaurants and shops put out large bags containing glass beer bottles and metal beer cans, soft drink cans and plastic bottles. These are mixed with other waste in the refuse truck upon collection.

I suggest these outlets are given small containers/bins or skips to dispose of their large amount of recyclable waste each day. This will contribute very well to the effort that persons make and for the plenty of trouble we go through to go to bring-in sites by car or on foot so as to dispose of the recyclable waste correctly.

I also suggest a type of eco tax for shops owners, as these are the persons who contribute most to our Maghtab. A drive along the front of these shops in the early morning speaks for itself. I would like to encourage WasteServ to continue with its promotion so as to tackle these waste and environmental issues.

I would like to see incentives for shop owners who contribute to recycling waste and also for those who use paper bags or bio-degradable materials, rather than plastic bags.

I would also like to suggest that caretakers/cleaners of government departments are instructed to collect empty plastic bottles and similar recyclable waste separately from organic waste. Government departments are also to set an example by using bio-degradable bags.
