Three foreign skiers were killed by avalanches in Austria this weekend and another foreigner was missing, police said yesterday.

Two of the dead skiers were from Canada and the third was a dual US-German national, police and local media said. Rescuers were searching for a missing snowboarder from the United States.

"Two people were killed in St Anton and one person is still missing," a police official in the western Tyrol told Reuters.

In another avalanche on Saturday, a snowboarder was killed in Montafon in the western region of Vorarlberg.

Police said the snowboarder was from Stuttgart, Germany, and the Austrian Press Agency (APA) said he had dual US and German citizenship.
