Ronnie O'sullivan mastered his way into the Welsh Open final yesterday with a historic 146 in the final frame against Barry Hawkins.

The defending champion became the sixth player in snooker history to score a 146 in professional competition. It also put him in line for the tournament's high break prize.

Stephen Hendry has made the rare 146 twice and the only other players to achieve this feat are Paul Hunter, Stuart Bingham, James Reynolds and Brian Morgan.

"I suppose it's a good reason to celebrate my first 146, but I'm just looking ahead to the final,'' said O'Sullivan, who beat Hawkins 6-4.

The two-times world champion will be looking to win his second Welsh Open title. O'Sullivan faces a showdown against the winner of the other semi-final, which was being played last night, between Hendry and Mark King.

World No.43 Hawkins said he had gained an enormous amount of confidence from yesterday's semi-final and that this has been his best ever season.
