Views on human resources practice will be exchanged on Thursday, January 27, when an evening seminar, titled Managing People in Malta, is being organised by the Foundation for Human Resources Development.

Following an introduction by Dr Godfrey Baldacchino, one of the editors of the book Managing People in Malta - Case Studies in Local Human Resource Management Practice, five of the book's contributors will address the seminar. Ray Cassar will speak on The Macro-General Perspective.

There will then be interventions by Anne Marie Thake and David Parnis on the public and private sectors, respectively. Pauline Attard will speak on Training and Development and Joseph Montebello on Management-Labour Relations.

The seminar, being held from 4 to 7 p.m. at Malta Enterprise (the former METCO offices) at the San Gwann Industrial Estate, closes with a moderated discussion, animated by interventions from the floor.

Managing People in Malta is the first book of its kind to deal specifically with local HR issues and situation. Published by the Foundation for Human Resources Development, it considers the implementation of the human resource function in Malta today.

The case material seeks to represent the diverse totality of the Maltese workplace in relation to distinct enterprises, type of firm ownership and in terms of economic activity.

Dr Baldacchino, a former member of the FHRD Board, is Canada Research Chair in Island Studies at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and Visiting Professor of Sociology at the University of Malta.

For more information and registration phone the FHRD on 2138-1495, fax 2137-8895 or e-mail Sandra Agius on sagius@fhrd.org.
