Violence dropped sharply in the Gaza Strip yesterday ahead of the planned deployment of Palestinian security forces ordered by President Mahmoud Abbas to prevent attacks by militants against Israelis.

Hundreds of Palestinian paramilitary policemen were expected to be deployed this morning in towns and fields in northern Gaza from where militants often fire mortars and rockets into Israel, Palestinian security sources said.

Two Palestinian youths were killed in fresh bloodshed.
