A three day workshop organised under the Comenius network Hands-On Science was opened yesterday at the Marina St Gorg Hotel, St Julians.
The workshop, supported by the Ministry of Education and the Malta Council for Science and Technology, is looking at the different aspects of scientific literacy and how European countries can work to improve standards in science.
The aim of the Hands-On Science network is to contribute to the generalisation, innovation and improvement of science and technology teaching at basic primary, vocational training and secondary schools by hands-on experimental practice in the classroom.
It strives to bring hands-on active learning of science into the classroom and into the soul and spirit of the European schools.
Suzanne Gatt, from the Faculty of Education, University of Malta, and Charles Sammut, from the Education Division, are the local partners in this EU funded project.
Other partners in the project come from Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and the UK.
Contributors from various EU members are participating.
