A drive to recruit cabin crew in Malta for British Airways' franchise partner GB Airways has proved a roaring success and seven Maltese nationals are currently undergoing the initial training course in Gatwick.

The recruitment drive took place here last October where over 250 potential applicants met the training team and applied to join the airline.

The initial training course, which takes place at GB Airways' head office, lasts five weeks and includes safety, security, aviation medicine and customer service.

The airline welcomes applications from European Union citizens who can work legally in the UK.

Karen Costigan, cabin crew manager GB Airways, commented: "This is the first time Maltese nationals have had the opportunity to join us and they will undoubtedly be proud to fly in the new British Airways uniform.

"Having a bilingual crew on board is clearly a benefit to many of our passengers".

A second group of seven Maltese will be leaving the island to follow another training course, expected to start on February 14.

GB Airways is a London Gatwick based airline and this winter will serve 28 destinations in France, southern Europe and North Africa from London Gatwick and/or London Heathrow.

GB Airways aircraft (Airbus A321 and A320) operate in BA livery with BA flight numbers.
