Memorable event in Paris
French driver Michel Lenoir being congratulated for his win in the Prix de Malte in Paris by SECF Technical Director Jacques Chartier and MRC officials George Fenech and Anthony De Bono. Also present was driver Charles Camilleri and the other French drivers who finished second and third place in the race.
On Saturday, December 11, at the Vincennes Hippodrome, Paris, the French Association SECF, in collaboration with the Malta Racing Club, organised the first edition of the trotting race Prix de Malte on a short distance of 2,100m.
Eighteen drivers took part in this race among whom Charles Camilleri, Charles Degiorgio, Noel Baldacchino, Andrew Pace and Marco Tanti. The race was won by French professional Michel Lenoir with favourite Ideal de Cerisy in an average time of 1.15.8" per kilometre.
Camilleri finished in fourth place with Indy du Morin.
After the race Lenoir was congratulated and awarded by Jacques Chartier, Technical Director of SECF, in the presence of George Fenech and Anthony De Bono, president and general secretary of the Malta Racing Club. Together with other club officials and over 30 Maltese owners and enthusiasts, they accompanied the Maltese drivers in France.
A special prize was given to Camilleri. SECF officials confirmed that the French association intends to organise the international event even this year and are willing to continue helping the Maltese in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the new horse racing season at Marsa starts today.
