Lufthansa's 2005 summer timetable will offer travellers a new option: direct flights to Munich.

The three flights a week will start operating on March 28, with multiple connections to the rest of Germany, Europe and the world.

Lufthansa will operate the new service with an Airbus A319 and will therefore increase weekly capacity by about 30 per cent. Malta has been served with a daily flight to Frankfurt for the past 10 years.

Munich has emerged as one of the busiest airports in Europe and by the end of the year Lufthansa had carried more passengers on more flights from that airport than planned.

A special introductory offer will be available shortly for local travellers.

Lufthansa said its highly competitive market fares are also applicable to over 100 direct destinations via Munich airport, such as to Stockholm, Brussels, Madrid and several long haul destinations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Tokyo.

The flights from Munich to Malta leave every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 11 p.m. arriving in Malta at 1.15 a.m. while the flights from Malta to Munich leave every Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 3.15 a.m. arriving in Munich at 5.50 a.m.
