Martins leads Inter into quarter-finals

A second-half hat-trick by Obafemi Martins propelled Inter into the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup yesterday, as they beat Bologna 3-1 to seal a 6-2 win on aggregate.

Eager to protect their 3-1 lead from the first leg, Inter came under pressure when Jonatan Binotto put Bologna ahead just before half-time.

Martins, however, equalised 11 minutes after the restart when he fired home a rebound from an Alvaro Recoba shot that had hit the post.

The 20-year-old sealed victory when he ran on to a Dejan Stankovic pass and tucked the ball past the keeper in the 82nd minute before he completed his hat-trick three minutes later when he jinked past his marker and fired into the net.

Inter will face the winner of today's tie between Atalanta and Juventus in the quarter-finals.
