Louis Apap-Bologna has been re-elected president of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise for 2005.
Mr Apap-Bologna is managing director of Frederick Darmanin and Co. Ltd and has been a member of the Chamber for the past three decades.
Michael Scerri was re-elected senior vice-president and Victor A. Galea, vice-president.
The other elected officers are Norman Aquilina, honorary secretary; Andrew W.J. Mamo, honorary treasurer; Charles M. Mercieca, assistant honorary secretary and Peter Grima, assistant honorary treasurer. In a brief address, Mr Apap-Bologna said the immediate priorities for the Chamber were to seek timely solutions to urgent matters affecting the business community and the country in general such as the amendments to the Eco-Contribution Act and the controversy over public holidays falling on weekends.
The reform of the pensions system and privatisation of government-owned companies were also priorities for the Chamber.
Mr Apap-Bologna also expressed his hope that the Chamber's endeavours in seeking to strike an agreement on a social pact between all the social partners for the benefit of the entire country would materialise.
