The end of 2004 saw two events in the Table Tennis Academy calendar that has now become quite brimming with activities.
One of them was the second ranking tournament of the season that was sponsored by Sports Experience. The ranking list is now topped by Thomas Vella. He leads the way followed closely by Sergei Mikhailenko.
However, the tournament saw the breakthrough of Matthew Micallef in Group A. He had his first win in the Academy tournaments and is now ranked sixth. Third place was obtained by Stefan Grech behind Mikhailenko.
Similarly, Group B had another player making a breakthrough, Gayle Caruana. The youngster fought admirably for first place and reached the objective with full merit. Daryl Cauchi was second followed by Roderick Bonnici and Josue Massa.
The top four players in Group C were: Christian Cutajar, Justin Mizzi, Luke Camilleri and Daniel Portelli.
During a social evening, the Academy (www.tabletennisacademy.com) distributed the following awards after the 17 nominees were split in seven categories.
Matthew Micallef - best improved senior; Stefan Grech - best improved junior; Roderick Bonnici - most dedicated player; Daniel Vella - best achiever; Daniel Bajada - best technical player; Andrea Portelli - Star of the Future Award; and Eman Zerafa - most improved newcomer.
