My letter (December 18) expressed my concerns regarding the weekly TV programme that we expatriates get from PBS (Malta) every Sunday. What I had to say regarding the half hour abysmal items sent free to be aired on SBSTV in Australia was supported by many similar letters that followed.
It appears that our concerns have even reached the ears of the minister responsible, Austin Gatt. I have waited for the last three programmes to be screened (January 2, December 26 and 19) to comment again.
There has been a remarkable improvement. The programmes arrived on time and contained the full 30 minutes each time. Even the sports segment was reintroduced.
It is hoped that we continue to receive quality news. Every effort must be made to transmit this weekly news segment to SBSTV in Australia by a quicker method than is being used at the moment.
May I also remind PBS (Malta) that items must be carefully selected to appeal to overseas viewers not the local market. Every opportunity must also be taken to promote tourism to our islands through the medium of this weekly free news segment.
Once again many thanks to all those that have supported my comments. It appears we have achieved some progress.
