Mauro Brincat's transfer from Hamrun to Floriana was completed yesterday after the 20-year-old midfielder inked a three-and-half-year deal with the Greens.
"I'm really delighted to become a Floriana player," Brincat told The Times yesterday.
"After Hamrun Spartans were relegated to Division One last season, it was imperative for me to return to the Premier League as soon as possible in order to broaden my career.
"My main target has always been to win a major domestic honour and I feel that I have made the right choice in joining Floriana."
This is the first time in Brincat's career that he is changing club colours, having donned the Hamrun Spartans shirt for more than 10 years.
Asked for his feelings on leaving his home club, Brincat responded: "I feel a bit sad because I'm leaving behind many friends. However, I don't think I will have any problems to settle at Floriana as I know most of the players there.
"I would like to thank the committee of Hamrun for their co-operation and assistance and I wish them all the best for the future."
Brincat, a member of Mark Miller's Malta U-21 squad, was due to report for his first training session under his new coach Willie Vassallo yesterday evening and is expected to make his debut for Floriana in tomorrow's Premier League match against Birkirkara.
Camilleri joins Sliema
Meanwhile, Floriana have given goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri permission to talk to other clubs over a possible move.
Sources said that the 25-year-old goalkeeper yesterday signed for Sliema Wanderers.
