Customs officials seized 11 containers full of counterfeit clothes and shoes from the Malta Freeport between Tuesday and yesterday.

Sources said the containers were here for transhipment to European destinations.

The counterfeit items were offloaded at the Customs stores and the empty containers returned to the Freeport. The goods were detected when the containers were scanned.

By law, the counterfeit items will have to be disposed of but sources wondered why they should not be sent to the areas hit by the tsunami in Asia.
