The Local Councils Association (Gozo) will on Friday launch a new book about the autonomous governments of Gozo from prehistory to modern times.

The book, entitled Gozo's Government - The Autonomy Of An Island Through History, was researched and written by Joseph Bezzina, head of the Department of Church History at the university.

The launch will take place at the Banca Giuratale in Victoria, which is featured on the cover of the book, at 7 p.m. The book will be available that evening from the Victoria council and afterwards from the 14 offices of the local councils of Gozo.

The book has been published to mark Malta's accession to the European Union. A unanimous decision was taken by the councils to sponsor the publication. It is aimed at enhancing local and foreign interest in Gozo and encourage the Maltese islands' residents to better preserve the heritage accumulated through the ages.
