Quick-change artist is how Opel refers to the new Tigra TwinTop, a sporty, two-seater coupé-cabrio with an electro-hydraulic retractable steel roof that opens and closes at the touch of a button.
Depending on weather or mood, this dynamic-looking car offers open air enjoyment or coupé driving pleasure. Thanks to its state-of-the-art, space-saving retractable roof, the Tigra offers over 500 litres of cargo space - the most in its class.
This intelligent roof construction enabled a sleek design line from the front to the elegant, well-proportioned rear end. The compact two-seater was elected Cabrio of the Year 2004 by an international jury of car journalists and experts at its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new Tigra TwinTop's engine is designed with efficiency in mind and exhilaration in it's heart. There is a choice of two economical, modern ECOTEC petrol engines, which will ensure that every drive becomes a fun filled experience to remember.
The entry level version, costing Lm10,900, is powered by a 1.4-litre 16-valve TWINPORT engine producing peak power of 90 bhp and 125 Nm of torque (pulling power) at 4,000 rpm.
Standard features include power steering dual front and side airbags, CD player, ABS, front fog lamps, immobiliser, colour-coded bumpers and mirrors, remote central locking, electric windows, air-conditioning, leather steering wheel, electric power steering, 15-inch alloy wheels, electric and heated mirrors, tinted glass and height-adjustable driver and passenger sports seats.
Options include an alarm, full leather interior, Easytronic automatic/manual transmission and metallic paint. The other engine is a 1.8-litre 16-valve producing 125 bhp and 165 Nm at 4,600 rpm. The Opel Tigra TwinTop is a compact two-seater with harmonious proportions (length/width/ height: 3,920 mm/1,900 mm/1,360 mm) and exciting design details: a matt chrome décor strip integrated in the trapezoidal radiator grille, the characteristic crease on the bonnet, the large air inlets in the bumper and the 3D-ellipsoid-headlights.
The Tigra's silhouette captivates with its short overhangs, sloping windscreen, bold shoulder-line rising up to the rear end, slightly tapered sides and muscular side sills. Opel's attention to detail is reflected in the air inlets hinted at in the front bumpers, with their integrated turn-signal lights, the wave-shaped bar made of hydro-formed aluminium, and the striking styling of the roof.
The Opel Tigra TwinTop's interior matches its sporty character with chrome-ringed instruments as well as numerous applications in matt chrome. Driver and passenger benefit from superb ergonomics as well as a comfortable and spacious interior.
The interior door trim on the driver's side holds the central controls for power windows, central locking, heated power mirrors and the electro-hydraulics to open and close the roof and boot lid. Especially practical features for extra comfort are the lockable glove compartment with integrated cup holders and the 70-litre compartment with a luggage net behind the seats.
The standard follow-me-home light function is another useful feature. After parking the car it's head lights stay on for 30 seconds illuminating e.g. the path from the car to ones home.
