How is the Economic and Social Committee formed?
The new Constitution for Europe establishes a limit of up to 350 members who would form the Economic and Social Committee. These members are nominated by their respective member states. They are then appointed following a decision taken by the Council of Ministers, acting unanimously on a proposal from the European Commission.

The members of the Committee shall be appointed for five years. Their term of office shall be renewable.
