Thirty-five years have passed since the late Mgr Joseph Schembri, ex parish priest of Mellieha, asked Christopher Bartolo, sacristan of Mellieha parish church, to form a group of bell ringers. The group was to be trained to ring the melodious bells, which were manufactured by the Barigozzi Firm of Milan in 1925.

December 10 was an important day for the present group of Mellieha bell-ringers and their predecessors. They all took part in a thanksgiving Mass after which they were invited to a reception at the Solana Hotel, Mellieha.

On this occasion the co-operation of individual Mellieha parishioners, who appreciate the young bell-ringers' voluntary work, was strongly left. The get-together helped to encourage the present bell-ringers to continue in their noble task.
