Mr Henry V. Agius (The Sunday Times, December 12) cannot understand how you can be a homosexual unless you practise it. The answer is fairly simple. It takes the same discipline or resolve as an alcoholic who abstains from drink or a compulsive gambler who does not make the first bet.

It does not make them cured of alcoholism or gambling - they are just not taking part in the activity.
