Appreciation - Joseph Axiaq
Toni Farrugia writes:
The fact that Joseph Axiaq's nickname was il-Hawha says a lot about him. It was an apt description of his character and complexion - his "ruddy complexion" - and explains admirably the instant liking one felt towards him as soon as one made his acquaintance.
Joseph passed away after a short battle with a cruel illness. His popularity was attested by the heavy attendance at St George Basilica, where Archpriest Fr Dr Joseph Farrugia delivered a typically fitting homily during an impeccably conducted funeral service. It took considerable will power to fight back the tears after the reading of the emotional farewell speeches.
To his friends, he will be missed for his infectious joie de vivre. I am sure that they have some interesting anecdotes to recount about him.
To his colleagues he will be missed for his insatiable appetite for work - no problem was too big, no job too small. It is a pity that a life, and a promising career, had to be terminated so tragically short. Personally, it was a privilege, and a pleasure, to have spent the last year of my banking career as his manager.
I can confidently attest that the only thing he was absolutely incapable of doing was to antoganise people. To his family he will be missed as a loving son, brother and finacé. To them I offer my heartfelt condolences.
